The Super Bowl XL The Opus is written by some of the best known and most respected writers, past and present, in the field. We have also commissioned photography from some of the world’s most renowned experts.
Many images are commissioned exclusively for the Opus, or are previously unseen images derived from private collections.
We have scoured the planet for the most outstanding writers, photographers and researchers in their respective fields. Each Opus is meticulously researched and attention to detail is evident in words as well as pictures.

Michael MacCambridge
Michael MacCambridge's first book, The Franchise: A History of Sports Illustrated magazine, was described by the Boston Globe as ‘one of the great sports-book reads of all time.’ America's Game: The Epic Story of How Pro Football Captured A Nation won the Nelson Ross Award, given by the Professional Football Researchers Association, for outstanding achievement in pro football research and history. MacCambridge was the editor for the New York Times bestseller ESPN SportsCentury and the ESPN College Football Encyclopedia, hailed by Sports Illustrated as 'the Bible' of the sport, and he has written for a wide range of publications, including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Sports Illustrated, GQ and many others.

Rob Fleder
Rob Fleder joined Sports Illustrated in 1986, and was named an executive editor in 1996. Fleder is the editor of Sports Illustrated's books, including Sports Illustrated 50: The Anniversary Book and Sports Illustrated: The Football Book, both New York Times bestsellers, as well as the anthologies, Fifty Years of Great Writing and Great Baseball Writing.

Dot McMahon
Dot McMahon, photo editor of the bestselling 50th Anniversary of Sports Illustrated, has over 20 years' experience in the photography business. She was the founder of the international photo agency Dot Pictures and represented several award-winning photojournalists and sports photographers. In the past 10 years, she has been a contributing photo editor at Life, People, Time and Sports Illustrated.
